Germany: Greenhouse gases decreased significantly in 2014

Klimagase und textilrecyclingFor the first time in many years greenhouse gases decreased significantly in Germany. Overall the emissions were 901,9 million tones CO2 in 2014 – and thus 4,6 percent under the previous year´s level. However there is an increase in the traffic sector and agriculture sector. That are the results from calculations by the Federal Environment Agency which they transmitted to the European Commission.
In the traffic sector the greenhouse gases rise 1,2 percent to 161 million tones CO2. The road traffic is responsible for that. There was no progress of the climate balance in this sector since 2005. Also in agriculture all efforts to climate protection stagnated. The greenhouse gas emissions of the German agriculture increase in 2014 by 2,2 percent to allover 66 million tones CO2 compared to the previous year.
